Birth of Gemini Studio – SS Vasan
Gemini Studio in Chennai was started in the year 1940 on Mount Road by Thiruthuraiponndi Subramanian Srinivasan (a) SS Vasan who bought a film distribution concern K Subramanian who was doing the film distribution business with Motton picture producer’s combines which was later renamed by Gemini Studio. There are lot and lots of movies given by Gemini studio and few of them are given below in this article. The Gemini twin has become a household symbol and the Gemini flyover was named after the studio at that junction.
Best movies given by Gemini Studio
The very first movie by Gemini pictures and productions is ‘Madanakamarajan’ in 1941 with the onset of cameraman and scenarist Mr K Ramnath and at director Mr AK Sekhar. Also ‘Chandralekha’ is one of the outstanding movies by SS Vasan. Point to be noted that Chandralekha is the first movie in Tamil that achieved All India distribution and brought excellent returns. Destiny of Gemini Studio
After the death of SS Vasan, Gemini studio was overtaken by his son SS Balasubramaniyan. Finally after the release of the film ‘Ellorum Nallavare’ in 1970, Gemini studio was taken over by Anand cine services. Gemini studio has been diminished for two decades, the buildings were wrecked and luxury hotel named The park was built and inaugurated in 2002. Though Gemini studio was demolished, still Gemini Studio occupied a mind blasting remembrances among the people.
